Financial Incentives and Research Funds

Investors looking to finance research and development projects in Yukon can benefit from a number of local and federal research incentives. In addition to assistance and support from the five research programs found under Yukon College and Northern Research Centres, there are two incentives companies can access:

Northern Research Endowment Fund

Created to support research in the humanities, social, pure, and applied sciences related to Yukon, this fund can disburse up to 50 per cent of its earned interest from its original $1-million endowment. Companies that are based in Yukon or collaborate heavily with Yukon companies are eligible. Applications can be found here.

Tax Credit

Companies incurring costs related to research and development in Yukon may be eligible to receive a tax credit of 15 per cent or 20 per cent on expenditures such as scientific or technological experiments, basic or applied research and experimental development. Research and development activities must be located in Yukon and meet the definition of a qualified expenditure in subsection 127 (9) of the federal Income Tax Act. Other conditions apply.
