Financial Incentives

The Government of Yukon is extremely supportive of investing in tourism and business ventures. The following are a number of funding programs that potential tourism investors may be eligible to receive.

Strategic Industries Development Fund (SIDF)

The objective of SIDF is to identify and facilitate the development of strategic industries, projects and economic infrastructure. A variety of assistance for eligible SIDF projects is available for strategic projects or activities in the preliminary, development and implementation stages. In particular, there are two types of SIDF projects:

1. Strategic Industry Development Projects - Projects that support industry development as a whole. For example: research that identifies and addresses barriers to industry development or identification and feasibility of needed economic infrastructure.

2. Strategic Business Development Projects - Projects that have the potential to generate significant wealth and contribute to the growth of a strategic industry in Yukon. For example: a business development which results in new products that meet market demand.

Yukon Small Business Investment Tax Credit (YSBITC)

The investment tax credit program is intended to create jobs and promote economic growth and expansion in Yukon by reducing financial risk for investors in Yukon companies. The YSBITC is a personal tax credit that reduces Yukon income tax for eligible investors who invest in eligible business corporations by up to 25 per cent of the amount invested. Yukon Venture Loan Guarantee Program (YVLGP)

Businesses involved in the development of new products or services, or upgrades to tourism attractions and tourist accommodation facilities may be eligible for a loan guarantee program arranged by the Government of Yukon and local Yukon banks. New or expanding businesses that have or project to have less than $5,000,000 in gross revenues and less than 100 employees are eligible as long as they pay Yukon income taxes.

The loan guarantee is 65 per cent of the venture loan with a $10,000 minimum and a $100,000 maximum. The loan repayment has a six year maximum term that permits interest-only payments in the first term. To learn more about the program and program eligibility please visit here.
